Diwali

A little post on Diwali (in response to Sonia's msg)

Diwali is an Indian festival. it is known as the 'Festival of Lights'. It is one of the most important, and biggest festivals here. It is the ONE festival EVERYONE in INDIA, CELEBRATES :)

It is loud and colorful - a mix of the religious (think: christmas - prayers in homes and temples, flower arrangements, decorations) and lights and crackers (think: 4th of July kind of celebration).

People eat, drink, meet family and friends, are loud, cheerful with a lot of gifts and hugs being exchanged.
In the days before Diwali, there are a lot of Dinner-&-Cards parties (people play with money)...just a general time of joy and celebrations.

The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance, although the actual legends that go with the festival are different in different parts of India.

Homes are decorated with lights (especially angel lights) and diyas are lit - all homes blazing with light inviting the Goddess Lakshmi to visit the household and bless it with prosperity :)
see pics from my previous post: 1. of rangoli, 1 of a house lit up with lights on the occasion, the foods and sweets prepared as part of the celebrations.and offcourse, my colorful dinner drinks with friends :)

If you ever plan a trip to India, do it around the festivals.. you will love the burst of color and energy!

Weekend

I have a seriously long To-Do List for this weekend.
As usual, I am way behind on it... I have come to the conclusion that I :
-have VERY LOW levels of concentration :p
- under-estimate the time something, especially reading will take
- feel thirsty and hungry regularly, when I should be working instead!

My accomplishment for today:
- watering the plants (the heat is back! its the middle of October!! I thought the winters would be arriving soon! instead we are still sweltering in this heat!) - trying to save them from the heat and dryness!
- shifted the new pots to a space cleared specially for them, with hopefully the right amount of shade and sun and fresh air :)
-spent some quality time with the dogs and just breathing!
-catching up a little bit on some of my favorite blogs... :)

Now back to office work, which should never have been on my list for today anyway!

Planting the new seeds

The Potting Process!
With a very hopeful heart, I have sown the seeds ...my 1st ever experience/experiment with trying to grow a plant from its very seed!

Today, we planted the new seeds in their new pots, using the new soil and fertilizer.

These seeds look so fragile! Its hard to believe that these seeds are going to yield these flower/veg bearing plants.

sorting the seeds, organizing the pots & the tools!

My favorite helper...my ever-resourceful mum!

So far so good :) All seeds potted & planted!

On my mind: hope & prayers.... I certainly hope these grow!

Reminder: lightly water these pots - every day!
In 1-2 weeks, I should find some seedlings.

Definitions:
Seedlings: A Seedling is a young plant - developing out of a plant embryo from a seed.

what an interesting insight:
Sydney Eddison says:
"Gardeners garden the way they do because of the people they are."
And I suppose this can be said for most things in life!

These are LOVELY.... Does anyone know what these are called?
I am searching for the name of this flower...
I wonder which flowers are these. And I think, its 2 kinds of flowers on 1 bush? or is it 2 bushes, which have grown closely together?
